Test Literature and History’s Download System for Free
We all have different devices, internet environments, and technical aptitudes! This page is designed to let you try downloading small MP3 files (~20 second piano pieces) for free, using the same download system you’d use to actually buy content from the
Bonus Content page. That way, you can make sure they work and you can get them where you need them, without wasting any money. Try downloading a single MP3, and/or a zipped folder, or both, and make sure everything works for you.

Why can’t I get bonus content on Spotify, iTunes, or other services?
In essence, because if my bonus content is available on these services, your money goes to a tech giant, and not to keeping the podcast going. I’ve tried it, with listener convenience in mind, and lost an enormous amount of earnings. Here’s how it works.
- While Apple and other tech giants let anyone upload free podcast episodes to their services, we can’t sell content in these stores unless we use an intermediary company. These intermediary companies either charge money per download, or per product per year. Someone like me who has 50+ products for sale is looking at thousands of dollars a year in fees. Additionally (and this is true) we cannot decide what we want to charge – costs are assigned arbitrarily based on length by intermediary companies and stores.
- All stores take about 30% of revenue on top of this. Additionally, they do not let producers opt out of streaming. For my specific situation, with my audience listening to bonus shows once, or at most twice, this model is not feasible.
- That’s why I ask you to buy directly from my website. About 98% of your contribution goes directly toward the show, minus a small fee I pay to a rock solid file circulation service called Sendowl, and the miniscule fees charged by PayPal or Stripe. I know the big stores are convenient, but there’s a reason I don’t sell content through them!
